Road bike session at Herne Hill Velodrome every Tuesday

All abilities welcome! Ride your own road bike for these sessions. Helmet and gloves must be worn and bikes must be in good working order. Sessions will be led by Head Coach Jon Horsman and include the following:

  • Safety & track etiquette
  • Endurance, speed endurance & sprint training
  • Group riding
  • Principles of drafting
  • Cornering & bike skills courses (when applicable)

Sessions for Junior members run from 18:00 – 19:30 and Adult member sessions run from 19.30 – 21:00.

Sessions are included as part of the annual membership fee, or £12.50 for Pay As You Go members. Sign up on MyClubhouse.

Sunday Club Ride

We also hold a weekly adults Sunday club ride into the roads around Kent. We meet at Elmers End Green at 8:30am (check MyClubhouse/WhatsApp Bike Group for details). There are normally three different speed groups for the rides and we are typically riding for 2-3 hours, often with a cafe stop at Crystal Palace to finish.

Signing up is essential as it helps us manage groups and ride leaders. If you are not sure which group to join please speak to the bike coordinator for advice.

These guidelines help maintain a cohesive and supportive group ride.

  • Listen to your ride leader: Follow their instructions to ensure everyone’s safety and enjoyment.
  • Riding off the front: If you go ahead of the group, it’s your responsibility to find and rejoin them.
  • Charging up a hill: Inform the leader before you do so and agree on a regrouping point.
  • Getting dropped on a hill: Don’t worry; the group will wait for you. No one is left behind. If this happens frequently, consider joining a slower group next time.

Only ride a maximum of two abreast when it is safe to do so.

Groups are limited to eight riders.

All riders are responsible for their own safety and being properly equipped with their bike in good working order:

  • Please wear appropriate clothing for the weather forecast (it can change!)
  • Helmet
  • Water/hydration in one or two bottles if hot
  • Food for 2-3 hours
  • Tubes and levers/pump
  • Multitool
  • Money/bank card
  • Phone

Add these to your cycle computer so you can follow the group more easily. Presently there are 8 different routes (med/long and short versions) rotated each week.

  1. Chartwell Ide (short) (medium/long: 70km)
  2. Chiddingstone Knowle (short) (medium/long: 82km)
  3. Crockenhill Ide (short) (medium/long: 71km)
