2018 National School games

Matthew Maginn was selected to compete in the 2018 national school games event 30/8-2/9. This was the first year that Triathlon featured as an event and the best performance athletes in years 10 and 11 came together and raced hard over 3 days.

Day 1 was the individual event aquathlon 350 swim and 2.5 km run. After 2 workshops in the morning on nutrition and doping in sports, the racing started at 4pm with heats then at 6pm they had the finals.

Paratriathletes competed as well also for the first time in this event.

There was an A final and a B final. The pool was set up in an open water scenario.

Day 2 was all day cycling, with a figure of 8 skills test in the morning. Then in the afternoon a 10km bike road race, with a transition start based on your finish time from the aquathlon the day before.

Saturdays main event was the mixed team relay where teams of 4, 2 girls and 2 boys, from each region each do a triathlon and the first team to complete 4 triathlons wins. Matthew did an incredible 2nd leg moving the team from 8th place to 6th. The London team finished 8/13.

Matthew finished 22/26 in the individual events.

Coach Audrey was the team manager for London and huge thanks to her for her time, support, skill, intelligence, energy and patience.
